Becoming a successful real estate agent requires a lot of various characteristics. Grit, being one of them. Another is the ability to hustle. Hustling has a few different definitions, but we're referring to the ability to work hard, not take no for an answer, and try try again.
Starting Out
When agents are first starting out, or want to take their business to the next level - this is when it's really time to hustle. This might mean working some days sun-up to sun-down. This might also mean days filled with cold-calls and being meticulous about leads.
Habits are what makes the hustle for an agent. Good business habits are what is going to make business flow in. Cold calls aren't anyone's favorite way to earn business - but the method is still around because it works. Following up on referrals is key to earning and maintaining a great reputation. Not to mention, keeping an organized log of all past and present contacts to follow up with when business is slow. Attend as many networking events as possible. When an agent is just starting out, no task or event or client is too small.
Last but not least, don't forget to take care of yourself so that you have the energy needed to dedicate to your business. Hustling doesn't just mean with work - it means with your health and wellness as well.
When the Going Gets Tough
The market crashes. Your third deal in a row falls out of escrow. Your friend went with another agent. These things happen and they all are a major bummer for real estate agents. But what defines the agents who are able to make real estate a full time gig is their ability to put their heads down, hustle, and keep going.
These trying times are opportunities for agents to rise above, to keep going when others leave the industry, and to make sure everyone who knows them, knows that they are working hard and ready to help with anyone's next real estate need.
A great way to work on one's work ethic is to stop thinking it's going to be easy. That's how agents really succeed in finding their hustle and making their business soar.
