Real estate agents may be looking for other avenues or other areas of real estate to get involved in. Maybe an agent loves the industry of real estate but being a generalized real estate agent isn't fulfilling to them anymore. Maybe an agent is really lucky and they have "too much" business in one specific area so specializing is on the horizon. The reasons are personal but there are multiple other areas of real estate, or closely connected to, that agents can shift their career into.
Specializing in Real Estate
Agents may want to specialize or find their "niche" in real estate if they are looking for a change, but not a huge one. Here are 40 real estate niches that agents may want to look into. To start, it might be wise to specialize in a certain area before honing in one on particular niche. This ensures that agents don't pigeonhole themselves. Specializing in one area (ie. high rise apartments) makes agents very appealing to clients who want a certain need met.
There's also the option to specialize in something like property management. Agents can still take leads and sales when they come up - but they won't be hustling for sales like before. Instead, agents manage multiple properties for multiple clients that are typically short term or long term rentals. This can be a great way to grow a business that is also slightly more stable during economic downturns.
Other (But Similar) Avenues
Agents could always go down the mortgage route too if that's something they're interested in. Loan officers and escrow officers all need extensive knowledge of real estate as well, so the transition is a natural one. There's also underwriters and mortgage broker processors. All of this fields naturally coincide with real estate agents.
For example: if an agent loves the financial side of real estate, then a loan officer might be the perfect job for them. Whatever agents decide to do, they should focus on what parts of the job they love and are playing to their strengths and go from there.
