Losing clients is every agent's worst nightmare. While some situations can't be helped, many of the ways agents lose clients are 100% preventable.
Read on for some tips on preparing ahead of time to keep your client base growing.
Know Your Stuff
The simplest and most straight forward way to keep clients happy is to know your stuff. That means the market, the home you are listing or home you're showing, having a team of professionals to work with as you finish the deal, etc.
This extends to being an expert when it comes to the details of real estate as well. Ensure that your listing descriptions are top notch to target the right audience. Be sure to market the best way - which means in all ways. Social media groups are your best friend, maybe even an open house.
Don't lose clients because you didn't do your homework. Know the details about school districts, community amenities, local attractions, etc. when listing or showing a home so that they trust they are in good hands. Remember, with sites like Zillow and Redfin out there, clients might feel like they need agents less than ever - so don't let yourself be disposable.
Be a People Person
Remember that real estate is largely a business of people. That means that if your clients genuinely like you, as well as think you're a good real estate agent, they're going to want to keep working with you - even if minor issues arise. During a tricky market or various other problems that can occur during a real estate transaction; if your clients trust you they are more likely to be patient and trusting.
One way to quickly lose trust from clients is showing homes that have features they've said are no-gos or are out of there price point. It's one thing to throw a creative curveball in hopes of opening a client's mind, but it's another to repeatedly show them homes that they can't dream of owning or might put them in a position of buyers remorse.
Agents can prevent the loss of clients if they follow the steps above and keep up their best practices.
