In life, and in any profession, you can only control your actions, reactions, and mindset. Mediocrity is a choice. This is hard truth to swallow for many, but that's why many lack grit. Grit is the difference between those who experience failure and let it shape them negatively and those who experience failure and never look back.
What is Grit?
The definition of grit is courage and resolve and strength of character. Like any other powerful word though, it's so much more than that. Grit is what makes the difference between surviving and thriving.
Why Do Agents Need Grit?
Easy. Every agent, loan officer, broker, etc. wants to reach the top of their game. Now, this definition might look different for everybody. That's fine - but the reality is you're never going to reach the top of any game, without grit.
This trait requires hustle and perseverance; two qualities every person in the real estate industry needs. The real estate business is one of sales and personal connections - there are bound to be bumps in the road and difficult times. Not to mention that when an industry is so tied to the economy and people's choices (low inventory, for example), sometimes the going gets tough.
Controlling actions, reactions, and mindset
Choosing mediocre behaviors equates to mediocre results. If an agent can't commit to their schedule or their clients then they aren't going to be successful.
Agents must focus on what they can control: themselves. We have all the power over one thing: ourselves. Our actions, reactions, and mindset are what keeps us from thriving, or constantly leveling up.
Managing negative self talk is an important step when it comes to strengthening your mindset. When deals fall through or an inevitable hiccup occurs, it's important to not let the inner monologue be one of constant negativity. This does no one any good and can really hurt productivity.
A singular focus on goals with resistance to failure and setbacks is the recipe for success. This mindset is one that represents grit and with that, any agent can be more successful.
