Agent Steve Kansagor joins us today to share a story that could haunt agents for years to come about a showing!
A showing gone awry is what happened for Steve when he was touring what he assumed was an empty property.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE A VACANT HOUSE IS VACANT BEFORE SHOWING
Steve was working with a family to find them a home in a gated community. As usual, Steve was showing the clients properties. His story is as follows from his perspective: The owners had already moved and so the home was empty, supposedly, when I was to be showing it. There was myself, and a family that consisted of a husband, wife, and daughter. The husband went wandering as we began the showing. We finished and went outside and I felt that the showing had gone well, and was uneventful. But then, the husband said “When I opened a closet door, there was a kid inside. I told him he could come out, but he said ‘No thank you’ and closed the door on himself.”
As you can imagine, I was shocked. I immediately called the listing agent who found out the teen had some problems processing and accepting the move. The teenager kept sneaking back into the property where he felt better and unbeknownst to me or my clients, was there when we were showing the property.
Best Practices Moving Forward
- Always check out the home first
- Ask any resources available about interesting facts about a home
- Keep in close contact with the listing agent about any funky facts that might come up.
Luckily, an experienced agent like Steve is able to laugh about this in the future and share his story with us!
Beware agents and check every closet!
