Seasoned and veteran agents know this all too well. This is a tale as old as time when it comes to professions. The housing market takes off and all of the sudden everyone is becoming a real estate agent. Some even refer to real estate as their "hobby". While there's nothing wrong with being a part-time agent, it can still be hard combatting some agent perceptions.
For many, being a real estate agent isn't a trendy choice - it's how they make their living. So, how can we deal with this professionally?
Being an Agent Must Be Easy
One of the most frustrating things for anyone to hear, ever, is that their job must be so easy. As many people choose to make real estate a hobby, agents can find this more and more frustrating. The stakes are simply different for the agent who depends on their business to keep a roof over their head.
But! Try to take it as a compliment if someone remarks that your job must be easy. That means you're making it look effortless and that you're doing a great job.
Anyone Can Do It
The reality is that becoming a real estate agent might seem easier than other professions at first. Still, in combatting perceptions about various fields - it's worth noting that not anyone can become a successful real estate agent. Look at the mass exodus leaving the industry right now as the market shifts.
Successful real estate agents need several of the following qualities:
- Grit
- Being a people person
- Negotiating skills
- Time management skills
- Organization
And so much more. While the profession of real estate agent might come in and out of the spotlight thanks to market conditions and various reality tv shows - it's the hard work and dedication of those who love the field and the work who stand out.
