Did you get into the industry after seeing reality tv shoes that idealized the real estate profession? Sure, you see the agents on the shows work extremely hard - but they play even harder. With the market conditions of the last few years and reality TV shows like Selling Tampa, etc. trending all over the world, it's hard not to think that being a real estate agent would be all luxury sports cars, hundreds of thousands of dollar commissions, and the best of the best.
Glitz and Glamour Is Only For the Cameras
First things first, let's address the elephant in the room. Reality TV is still TV - it's scripted and edited and glossed over. Celebrities, even real estate agents, have real lives and real problems. In fact, it's worth noting that being publicized heavily might make the stakes even higher.
If you got into the industry for fame and fortune - those are probably the wrong reasons. The same goes for if you thought multi-million dollar listings were going to fall into your lap. Any seasoned agent knows that being a real estate agent is hard work and requires a lot of trial and error, and a strong work ethic.
Don't Forget About the Realities of "Reality" T.V.
Talk about a lack of work/life balance! Add camera crews and publicity to an already stressful career? These agents must have some very serious practices about balance or their lives are almost certainly off kilter. While they get to drive nice cars and wear designer brands - there is a lot of pressure from clients to get the job done and fast.
Add in multi-million dollar listings and high profile buyers and sellers? That really is a whole new level of pressure. Not to mention that many high profile brokerages require a lot out of their agents. There is likely far less flexibility, which is a big perk of being a real estate agent in "real life".
