What isn't being replaced by technology these days? Not much, if you look around. Many have the fear that real estate agents, brokers, and loan officers will be replaced by technology sooner than later.
However, there are also many who feel strongly that the human touch in the real estate industry will be needed forever.
What Technology Can Do
Let's look at the bright side. Technology can streamline a lot when it comes to the real estate industry. In fact, can and should. It would be great for agents if technology can expedite more processes for transactions. Technology has already helped expedite things like home searches and financial aspect of real estate in many ways. Agents must stay on the pulse when it comes to technology or they will, indeed become obsolete. But not agents as a whole, just the ones who don't keep up with the times.
There's no doubt that technology has changed the industry and will continue to do so - and surely some companies will try to create digital real estate agents, etc. But, that's a ways away.
The Human Impact
The process of buying and/or selling a home is an extremely personal one for many. Because of this, the human impact of real estate professionals is necessary. A robot, no matter how well created, can't lend a hand while a client is packing up their home of 30 years in the same way. Nor can a robot ever understand nuance and specifics like a person can.
Sometimes sellers get cold feet purely based off of emotion and this is where an agent steps in to guide them. This personal touch is so important to someone's experience when it comes to selling their home. The same goes for the millennial couple that's been discouraged so many times via bidding wars. They need that positive voice telling them that everything will fall into place.
Fears of the Future
Whether deciding to become an agent or a seasoned professional within the industry; the fear of the future is real for many. Being replaced by technology is something many industries have to seriously consider about the future. AI and other technological specs are only getting "smarter", but the warmth that humans bring to the nuances of home selling and buying would be hard to replace with even the best robot.
