Vacation? Time-off? As an agent? Some might already be laughing at this notion. Do agents ever get time-off? Well, that's really up to the agent.
How Do Agents Take a Break?
Ways to take a break as an agent, both big and small:
- Unplug at the same time every day
- Pick a day or two of the week that you typically "take-off" like most people have a weekend
- Take a vacation! Even a night or two!
- Schedule in time for self-care
- Hire an assistant
- Join a team to distribute work load
Doesn't Business Suffer?
Well. . . maybe? But it shouldn't have to. If agents don't regularly have an assistant, before time-off is a great time to get one. This way calls, emails, inquiries, etc. can still be fielded in a timely manner. Not to mention, an assistant can help to make sure any deals that are in escrow, etc. get closed properly. Of course, if an agent can, they should take time-off when their current transactions are wrapped up, but that isn't always feasible.
What if an agent is taking maternity of paternity leave? Or taking care of a loved one? Sometimes time-off doesn't mean a vacation or a break. A couple of things to note here. Family should always come first. Furthermore, a great perk of the real estate industry is that you can make your own hours and decide your own work load the majority of the time. So, some agents might welcome a distraction or some "adult-time" when it comes to working a few hours here and there, maybe even assisting another agent. But, if the agent really wants time off, then forward planning both financially and personally is the way to go.
Agents are able to take a break if they create the priority to do so. Of course there isn't scheduled or even paid time-off as a real estate agent. That's just the nature of the game. But planning ahead financially, focusing while being productive, and taking time to recharge - these are all ways to make time-off doable.
