We asked Shimaa Anwar, an agent at LG Fairmont what her typical day looked like. Take notes, get inspired, and read on to get a glimpse into a day in the life of a successful agent. Shimaa puts it perfectly when she says "no day in the life is ever typical" but we can get a framework that will help agents be successful and disciplined.
Every Day is Different
Anwar quotes that "routine is a sign of an ambitious individual" and praises a routine every day. A routine is what gives agents an upper edge against those who go through their day in a more relaxed fashion. Being a top producer is almost every agent's goal and Shimaa Anwar, and agents like her, all agree that routine is a great foundation to begin from.
Example of an Ideal Day
6:00am - 7:00am: Get ready to set yourself up to be in a peak mental state. This is crucial to reaching your goals. You must be ready mentally for each day.
7:00am - 9:00am: Schedule and begin following up with my clients, lenders, attorneys, and colleagues. This involves emails, phone calls, and texts.
9:00am - 11:00am: Appointment setting and making sure to schedule with listing agents. Anwar does a daily market review for her clients that involve scouting what has just come on the market and what new trends are being discussed. A great tip!
12:00pm - 4:00 pm: Showtime for a real estate agent. This typically involves going out into the field with clients and seeing what's out there.
From there, the rest of the afternoon and evening usually involves follow up, confirming next day appointments, replying to emails, addressing issues and interacting on social media platforms.
Another great take away from Anwar is to make sure to stay ahead and consistently research the industry trends & market.
The Overall Goal
Purchasing a home is complicated and many factors come into play. Part of being a great agent is being able to pivot and address what nuances come up when it comes to timeline, budget, and desires.
Anwar reminds us: "while this is a snapshot of what one of [her] days may look like, it is most important to start your day expecting the unexpected so you are prepared to find solutions when your clients see nothing but obstacles." That sentiment is exactly why featuring a typical day for an agent is important - this highlights the necessity of strategizing for a great day by creating a routine.
Let's be clear - part of the perks of being an agent is that every day is different. Anwar noted an all-too-true statement about agents as well - they wear many hats in order to do their job well. In one day an agent might find themselves being a counselor, negotiator, researcher, etc. These are all rewarding parts of the job as an agent and they can all happen in just 24 hours.
