One of the many perks of being a real estate agent is having control over your own schedule. While some may laugh, and say clients dictate their schedule (and its true) - agents always can say no. They just might lose business. So, while the flexibility is nice and a true perk of the agent lifestyle, there is also a need for routine.
Flexible Routine - Key Word Flexible
We aren't advocating for a rigid schedule - that would never work for an agent. However, a flexible routine is a great way to boost productivity and grow your business. Since an agent's responsibility is to manage their own time, their time is even more valuable than most. The clock can never stop if an agent doesn't put an end to their work day. Tasks can pile up. Disorganized chaos can ensue if agents don't take the bull by the horns and put some routine in their day.
Ideally the best routine would emphasize some work/life balance. The morning should be spent getting off on the right foot and setting the tone for the day. Self-care, exercise, and some moments of peace and quiet are optimal. Try not to take phone calls or respond to emails before your work day begins, whenever that is.
Of course if a deal is going sideways or showings are starting early; your routine might change. Hence the flexibility. But a rhythm to your day is invaluable.
Staying on Track
Don't stray whenever possible from your routine. This way, you'll be able to weigh the pros and cons when it comes to if something is worse getting off track for. Stay focused on your routine and your goals and your business will thank you. This also helps other professionals engage with you because you are able to stick to a schedule and be reliable and dependable.
If you're feeling like a routine may not be for you; we challenge you to give it a month. Maybe start small and just get up at the same time every day. Just start building your routine to a more balanced you. You can do anything for a month. After a month you can make tweaks as needed or throw the whole routine out the window. But, we doubt it.
