The life of an agent can tend to be reactive at times. While preparation and planning can allow agents to be ahead of the curve, sometimes agents need to put out some fires.
The ability to react quickly and purposefully while finding solutions is a skill that agents need to have in order to be successful.
Client Fires
Sometimes clients create (unintentionally, most of the time) issues that agents need to fix. Those problems run from smaller to larger scale.
Sometimes the fires that clients create are simple and communication is an easy fix. For example, clearing up any missed communication on inspections, home features, -- the works.
Occasionally, the fires are bigger problems like wanting to pull out of escrow or having unrealistic expectations.
When push comes to shove in these situations, agents can only do their best. Their best course of action is to be as honest and clear as possible with all parties involved, walk the clients through every scenario possible, and let the chips fall.
Other Issues
At times, it's not clients who set things aflame. Escrow companies can mess up (it's rare, but true), the buyer's or seller's agent can drop the ball or lack integrity.
These issues can require agents to be on the phone for hours or fielding a plethora of emails. Days like those aren't the favorite, typically, but they do come around and require an agent to be present.
When other companies, individuals, or just extenuating circumstances create problems in deals - agents can be exhausted and downtrodden.
Tips to keep in mind here are:
- Keep the client as abreast as possible so nothing comes as a shock if things go wrong.
- Keep an open mind and remember that most situations have multiple possible outcomes.
- Remember that times of being close to the phone and emails are temporary.
- Stay on top of what you need to - whether that's paperwork, other professionals etc.
- Do what it takes to keep the ball rolling.
